Service Description

This course is designed to foster deep thinking and writing skills so students excel on the TJ Admissions Test and beyond. Based on our years of experience, this course is carefully designed to help students learn how to build and leverage strong written communication skills in order to answer the exam’s problem solving and self-reflection questions. This prep course teaches students how to think deeply about the mission of TJ High School and how their own skills and experiences align with that mission. Students who are able to showcase their creativity, leadership, and drive in their personal statement will excel on the TJ exam. These skills will extend beyond the entrance exam, helping students prepare to write application essays for college, internships, and academic enrichment programs, and beyond. TJ Admissions Process 1. Students will research TJ High School and comprehend its mission. 2. Students will understand the TJ admissions process, including important dates and test expectations. 3. Students will foster a mastery mindset, alongside deep thinking and quick thinking skills, to enter the exam with confidence. 4. Students will engage in multiple timed writing activities to familiarize themselves with the test environment as well as wit Personal Statement and Self-Reflection 1. Students will practice strategies to organize their writing and complete each section within the time constraints. 2. Students will understand deep self-reflection and how to communicate their reflections through writing. 3. Students will understand how to demonstrate “fit” in their personal statements by thinking deeply about their values and how they connect to the mission of TJ High School. 4. Students will engage in self- and peer-evaluation exercises, using a TJ admissions rubric, to understand their strengths and areas of growth. Problem Solving 1. Students will demonstrate how to communicate solutions to problems using logic, reasoning, and critical thinking. 2. Students will understand how to thoroughly answer test questions by including specific language, visual models, and written explanations. 3. Students will review past test questions and engage in mock tests.
