Service Description

This class will prepare high school students for advanced English courses as well as PSAT. Students will engage in literary criticism across genres and practice AP-level writing skills in their own research projects. The project and discussion-based learning highlighted in this course will prepare students for advanced high school coursework and beyond. Written Communication 1. Students will write effectively in the following genres: descriptive, expository, narrative, and persuasive. 2. Students will use logical thinking and organizational strategies to create well-structured essays at the high school level. 3. Students will participate in research projects to strengthen their ability to synthesize information from multiple sources in preparation for high school assignments. Reading Comprehension 1. Students will explore effective reading methodologies in a variety of genres and lengths of texts. 2. Students will push their comprehension beyond surface-level and engage with texts to determine themes, understand the author’s purpose, and identify biases. Deep Thinking 1. Students will think deeply about the meaning behind works of writing and make connections between this meaning and the author’s writing techniques. 2. Students will engage in discussions and project-based learning aimed to improve public speaking skills so they can excel in advanced high school courses.
