Our Public Speaking class will bring you guide students not only in public speaking, but also how to build crucial interpersonal skills.

This Introduction to Speech and Debate course will focus on public speaking skills, research skills, developing strong, logical arguments, and three of the formats of the National Speech and Debate Association:
Public Forum Debate
Each 90 class will include introduction to speech and debate, individual and group practice, and presentation time and evaluation. In this course, students will gain knowledge and practice in the essential skills of written and oral communication.
Class 1 & 2: Original Oratory - Students will learn how to craft an effective speech on a variety of topics and learn and practice presentation skills, such as poise, diction, projection, eye contact, and cadence.
Class 3 & 4: Extemporaneous Debate - Students will learn strategies to craft strong arguments with little preparation (on the fly), how to effectively counter an argument, and persuasive techniques that enhance their ideas.
Class 5, 6 & 7: Public Forum Debate - Using the skills students learned in the first four sessions, they will now spend time learning about and practicing formal debate procedures. Students will have time to craft a position on a given topic, practice debate delivery and performance, and conduct a final competitive debate with other class members.
